ELECTROMAGNETIC STEERING BRAKE, DC NEGATIVE ACTION WITH REDUCED BREAKING TORQUE AND SIZE
The peculiarities of this type of brake are:
- Soft and progressive braking applied by the springs on a single braking surface as well as by a greater moving mass due to the cooling fan of the engine, made of cast iron that is integral to the brake.
- Small footprint due to its compactness due to the use of common components between brake and engine.
- Silent operation due to the absence of free parts during rotation.
The braking action is generated by the push of the springs. The braking torque, obtained by friction, is thus available without -power, so even in case of failure from the eletricity grid; this is why it’s called negative action.
The brake is unlocked by the electromagnetic action of the DC coil, but is normally powered by DC-transformed single-phase AC current by means of a power supply / rectifier placed in the motor terminal box.
Depending on the requirements, we can arrange the brake supply, it can be interrupted after the power supply to eliminate its electrical inertia and get shorter action times, however, there are "fast" rectifiers to obtain shorter times of brake, even though this is powered with the engine.
The standard coils have a 100V DC or 173V DC supply voltage, with the mounted power supply/rectifier can be powered either 230V AC or 400V AC single phase. Other voltages are available upon request.
